Ruth's defenses are mostly in the super agility - Jay has more chaos-enhanced toughness, keeping him up, even if he's definitely dizzied by the blast, leaving him wide open to the others.
Of course, his expression suggests if someone doesn't follow that up, he's intending to do worse than toss someone around.
