Mundane Tasks
As if being blackmailed into being government pawns wasn't bad enough, there were normal everyday chores to do. Carolyn thought the government could have at least coughed up the money to hire someone to take care of the mundane things. Laundry was the bane of Carolyn's existence. She hated laundry almost as she hated being blackmailed.

She shoved the clothes, colors and whites, into the washer.

The benefit of wearing lots of suits? Often needing them dry cleaned and not really dealing with nonsense like this. But now here he is dealing with this idiocy.

So there he is with a bunch of clothes in a hamper.

"'lo. Take it you have to deal with the clothes cleaning bollocks, too?"

Carolyn shrugged. "Better than wearing dirty, stinky clothes," she said. "We haven't formally met yet. Carolyn."

"I'd rather be caught barmy than wear a crap suit," Daman admitted. He liked being nice and sharp dressed.

"But you're right. We didn't have time for a proper chin wag. Names Daman. And it's nice to be all proper in our introductions now."

"Clothes are functional," she said. "I really don't care as long as their clean."

Carolyn nodded. "Really didn't have time for the formal introductions."

"Damn right they are functional. Hard to make someone believe you a proper executive if you aren't in a nice suit," Daman said with a smirk.

"Well, you know me now. And you've prolly heard of Hyde as well by now."

"Functional," Carolyn said, clearly not amused.

She nodded. "I have."

"What's the matter, luv? You seem to be not very happy with something. All I was doing was agreeing with you."

There may or may not have been a smirk with that.

"Welp, looks like my whole reason for being here is well known. It's why I thought you lot was there for me. Didn't expect to be just thrown in the way I was."

Carolyn just rolled her eyes. She wasn't going to argue about something so silly.

"We all didn't expect that. It happened and now we just have to live with it."

"Woulda thought we'd all have some idea of what our teammates were before we were dropped off, but that's just me. When planning a con, you have to be able to know what your team is capable of. I would guess assassinations would be similar."

"I don't think we'll be only doing assassinations," Carolyn said. Not that she would mind much. Assassinations were just another thing to do.

"Call it a desire for something other than government-sanctioned killing. I hope we get to do something that involves a skill of mine besides schizophrenia."

After a few moments of puzzlement, Daman got the machine going.

"Bloody hell, do Americans have to deal with this kind of crap often? The laundromat style crap?"

"I know for a fact there are laundromats in England," she said. "If that's where you're from. Most developed countries have them."

There will be a Very Serious Look for a few seconds, but it then breaks really quickly.

"Yeah, we do on the Isle. But the styling on the machines are a bit different. Also, you blokes don't use proper measurements."

"I came down here earlier and did my bits, but apparently I didn't use enough soap. Smelt like shit."

"It doesn't take a genius to operate a washing machine, or are you a few shades of special?" Carolyn asked. "For the record, I'm not American, so don't give me that 'you don't use proper whatever' bullshit."

"Oh, I know how to operate one of these blasted machines, I just seem to be a bully to them."

Finally, after some fiddling (and a quick smack across the side of it), the machine he was using started to finally work.

"Bloody hell. This isn't even the same one I used earlier, and it's giving me the same problems."

And then the "not American" part registers. It makes sense.

"Really now. Again, we didn't get to know one another. Where did you call home?"

"Here," she said. "We moved around a lot, so I really didn't have a place to call home."
