The school day had taken a toll on Katima. The cruelty of the other girls, her own insecurities, and the difficulty in discovering that so much of what Humans knew of the universe was wrong. That was perhaps the hardest thing for her to deal with. For having never been in a school, Katima was brilliant and she understood things in ways that many beings never would. She saw with her heart and her mind, something she had learned during her time on Okara. Now, she was being forced to play along with what she felt was a lie. And it hurt.
Her homework "finished," she crept out of the house to give Avalon and Henry space, finding herself a quiet spot beneath one of the hedges where she could curl up and cry.
