When she let go of his hand, Alerron knew he'd said something wrong. Why didn't he just say he loved her and wanted her to stay with him? Yes, it was what he wanted, but not why he was here. Until he saved his mother, and Tamaran, he was not worthy of her.
"Katima, I...have seen you and Henry together. Not just as friends, but alone. I did not watch your intimate moments, but I know enough to know that I have no place here. I see how you care for him, and I am happy that you found someone to love. My presence here is an accident and nothing more. Once I am able to leave Earth, it is likely you will not see me again. I will have other duties to attend to, and my mother will need my aid." Alerron says.
"In short...we were not meant to be." he says, the words tearing at his heart as he speaks them.
