"Well, with most of the desk jockeys Dad paid overtime to help me practice, if all I wanted for them was to stop in their tracks, it didn't tend to take more than a please. Minds that happen to be tougher, or asking them to actually do something, it's more of the 'if you would be so kind,' and as things get more complicated, it'd be time to break out the Judith Martin books, you know? That's how the mental focus works. Etiquette. It's why I make sure never to ask anyone I care about for anything with polite language. So they won't have to wonder."
