Cerdian feels her arms around him and, finally, he allows himself to feel the despair that has clutched him since Prometheus first granted him clarity of his Sight. Before now, he could take comfort in the fact that he didn't know for certain if his visions would come to pass.
Now, he no longer had even that refuge to run to.
His arms wrap around Iris and he holds her, burning this image into his mind.
"I love you, too, Iris." Cerdian says, finally admitting at the end what he could never have said before now.
With that, he lets her go to return to the sea.
