The sale of a building in the Triangle was news to everyone, and especially Zoe. She expected things to change with the recent promises made, but she didn't count on things until they happened.
She'd hidden the pay from her first job from her mother. Michelle Rodriguez would not approve of her daughter's new career, and Zoe was already skilled in giving Mom what she needed to believe while trying to keep them safe. Mom was delighted that Zoe appeared to be making friends. She'd told Michelle that she spent the weekend with friends from college rather than the truth.
The money sat untouched in a bank account for the moment, though Zoe knew she would have to work on her mother to move into a better apartment.
She arrived at the new building wondering if this was a summons for a new job.
