What: Alistair's bad student radar is pinged. Addy is unimpressed.

Adelaide couldn't wait for the last day of school, and not just because it meant summer was upon them. That bitch she had to share a suite with in the University dorms was graduating-- for good-- this time, and she'd never have to try and sleep through one of her loud Ke$ha soundtracked room parties ever again.

Unfortunately, she seemed to be celebrating the upcoming finals with a sleepover every night, with increasingly louder and more obnoxious guests. Addy just couldn't take it anymore, so she threw on a jacket and stalked outside of the dorms to go lie in the grass and watch the sky. Outside, at least, was quiet. Thanks to the curfew imposed on everyone until University, the odds of running into another student were blessedly slim. No one would bother her.

She could just spread out and relax, perfectly alone.

Quodpot and Quidditch Tryouts (open to all students)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Dresden
Tryouts run from May 23rd to the 27th, from 3:30pm until dinner time. Some coaches may have students return after dinner for callbacks.

Students interested in trying out for Quodpot and Quidditch are invited to the pitches on the day designated for their house. Tryouts usually consist of several tests run by the coach and his or her current assistant; each tryout varies depending on the coach.

Current team members must tryout again to regain their spots on the team. Seniors and university students are ineligible to tryout. Students are invited to sit in the stands and watch tryouts, but coaches may bar rowdy students if they get out of hand.

Results of the tryouts will be posted in that house's main lounge or be sent out via w-mail at the discretion of the team coach.

After Prom Party

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Maria Morgendorfer
Each year the students are given the option of an after prom party held in the Dresden Hall gymnasium. This year the gym was divided up into several diversions.

One quarter of the room is sectioned off with sumptuous fabric and lush pillows for students who want a break from all the excitement. Another quarter is filled with theatre chairs and a big screen television for an all night long movie marathon; a quieting charm on the perimeter keeps the noise from the other activities. A third quarter of the room is filled with games and other such entertainments. The final quarter is set up with tables and refreshments.

Students are locked in at 11:00pm and are only allowed to leave with a chaperon to escort them back to their dorm. Doors unlock at 7:00am so that students may go to breakfast in the main dining hall.

The Prom

Seamus Morgendorfer
Cinna Thompson had almost single handedly pulled the prom together. The ballroom was decorated with festoons of floating flowers. Stars hung from the ceiling, each set to sparkle as if they were properly in the sky. The outskirts of the room were set with small round tables that could accommodate one or two couples. A table of refreshments was guarded at all times by Seamus Morgendorfer and a rotating cast of other faculty who volunteered to chaperon for the evening.

A glittery ballot box stood next to the entrance where students were set to write down their chosen prom king and queen and drop their tickets into the box. Students began to stream in after dinner to quiet music playing over the speakers. The band, a local group called Vampira was scheduled to begin playing around 7:30.

Needless to say it was going to be an excellent evening.

Greetings everybody! This year's prom is only ONE WEEK away! I hope we're all totally pumped!

On behalf of the events committee, I'd like to remind everybody that this is a FORMAL event. That means:
NO JEANS
NO SNEAKERS
NO FLIP-FLOPS I'm looking at you Ryder
NO BASEBALL CAPS
NO T-SHIRTS

It also means NO ACTING LIKE A FOOL. Save that for Send-Off. As with all events at Dresden, our lovely teachers will be chaperoning the evening, so please remember that any misbehavior is likely to be spotted and punished. No booze, no smoking, no fighting-- you know, the usual. PDA isn't technically against the rules, but you know some melvin is going to go cry to a teacher about it if you're playing grab-ass all night.

Lastly, as of Monday morning PROM COURT NOMINATIONS are open! There's a dropbox outside the library all week, please submit your nominations for prom king and prom queen before end of class on Thursday. No late nominations will be accepted! Ballots will be available upon entry to the dance, with voting closing at 8:30pm. Winners will be crowned at 9pm, so be sure to show by then!

Thanks for your time, my lovelies! Can't wait to see you all at prom!

Love,
Cinna <3

Scheduling for Next Year (open to 3rd years through university students)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Nathaniel Dawkins
Upperclassmen had been sent home with pamphlets over spring break to think about their options for the next semester. Third year students could pick up an elective for their freshmen year, fourth years could pick up two electives as sophomores; those meetings tended to go the quickest. It was the meetings with fifth years and beyond that tended to take up the full 15 minutes alloted to them.

These students had to receive recommendations to take advanced classes, or opt to take electives. Last year Nathaniel Dawkins had tried to talk everyone out of taking magical crafting, if only because that class filled up so fast they had to open another section of it. He had their files arranged already; all the students signed up for time slots earlier in the week. Professors had already sent Dawkin's their recommendations; those had been read and placed among their academic transcripts.

The university students were another group altogether. They had to select a mentor and core focus for their fall semester and if they could look ahead and think about what they wanted in the spring as well. They'd need additional meetings later in the semester with their chosen mentor; thankfully that was out of Dawkin's hands.

Students would be wandering in and out of classes for their fifteen minute blocks, but this was the standard practice for this time of year. Dr. Dawkins was ready, about as ready as he ever was.

rhys - sadface
Who: Rhys and Alistair
When: Monday
Where: Dresden Academy/St George's Way
What: A search for alcohol
Rating: SFW

This day was always a challenge for Rhys. For most Wizardfolk in the UK the day started with memorials and ended with celebrations. He and his family attended both, with their own private gathering during the day. Some years the memorial was hard and the celebration easy, whilst other years it was the opposite. He did tend to find it easier to celebrate his sister’s bravery and sacrifice, and the path she had given him in life.. but there was that part he’d tried to lock away - the guilt he had felt when he found out she had perished. It was something he had never properly dealt with, and that had an effect on the way he mourned. Not that acknowledging those feelings would change anything or even make it easier.. but it was a burden, and one that was obviously particularly heavy on this day.

He and Alistair had arrived at the academy the night before. Rhys had only unpacked the bare minimum before crashing, but he awoke relatively early and pottered about - putting bits and pieces away until it was around the time he had set to contact his parents. Rhys asked them about the memorial, shared some stories, and updated them on how things were going in the states. He and Alistair had spent some time in Washington DC getting the bureaucratic side of things out of the way before heading to Burnham City. Here they had stocked up on supplies and looked around prior to their placement at the academy. It was still early when he finished speaking with his parents, but not so early that he couldn’t make a bit more noise, so Rhys busied himself with getting all of his personal items put away. He would move on to the more communal stuff after. It sort if worked as a distraction - it didn’t really stop him from thinking, but it did keep him busy. A part of him did wish that they had organised everything with today in mind, but he knew that it would have been silly and impractical to delay things. But he still wished.

Rhys tried to avoid Alastair throughout the morning. He felt that he should seem particularly happy today, but being there just didn’t seem right. Unfortunately it was only early afternoon when Rhys finished unpacking. He plonked himself on one of the couches and worked at being cheerier. Fuck it, he thought in the end. “I’m going to the pub.” He said it loudly enough so that Alistair would hear. He was free to follow.. although as soon as he stepped out of the house Rhys realised that he had no clue where the pub was. “Any ideas?” he asked - not even turning to see if Alistair had followed.

Who: Ryder, Violet, Scarlet
When: Monday. Between classes.
Where: Some hallway somewhere.
What: Ryder lets the twins know that the answer is yes.. despite them not having asked.
Rating: SFW but language?

There had been a buzz around the halls of Dresden Academy as of late. A buzz that could only be attributed to the Prom. Or at least the asking of each other to the Prom. Ryder didn't take that sort of thing seriously, and as a result, had been looking for an opportunity to approach a certain set of twins since he realised what all the noise was about.

He spotted them during a walk between classrooms and decided to seize the opportunity - quite literally. He snuck up on the pair and attempted to put an arm around each of them. "Ladies," Ryder said smoothly. "The answer is yes. I am man enough to accompany both of you to the prom. No need to fight." He appeared to consider that thought for a moment. "Though that would've have been hot - I should have played you against each other before revealing I'd take you both." He shook his head at such a wasted opportunity. "Shame. At least," he conceded, "I've put your little mind's at rest. We can always save the fighting for later." He winked as he stepped away from them. They should be getting to class.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
ryder - waitin'
Who: Ryder + OPEN
When: Saturday morning
Where: Dresden Hall
What: Weekend detention
Rating: PUPPIES(/SFW) ..probably language though

Unlike most students, Ryder had a tendency to return from vacation with even more of a chip on his shoulder. It was no real surprise, therefore, to find that he had scored himself weekend detention less than a week in from Spring Break. He made his way to the main entrance hall with enough time to properly enjoy his first cigarette of the day. Ryder contemplated about what they might have him do this morning as he waited. Weekend detention tended to be more child-labour than its weekday afternoon counterpart, which was more of a sit down, shut up and do your homework affair. It had been a wet week, but seemed to be a little clearer out this morning. He kind of hoped for something outside - not really feeling like dusting or polishing shit in a musty old room. He did wonder why they bothered with him any more, but it was probably a good way to get all those little jobs done without having to pay anyone.

Movement nearby prompted Ryder to snuff out the rest of his cigarette - not that the smell wouldn’t give him away. But he was already in detention - what more could they do? He looked around for the source of the noise - wondering if somebody would be joining him or if it was just one of those crazy weekend early risers. There was definitely something wrong with those types, he had decided.

(OOC: IDK if anyone else would have weekend detention or not. But if anyone was feeling like NPCing a staff member.. now could be a good time. :D Or else another student up earlyish on the weekend is free to poke fun at him/enquire about his detention. XD)
