Eventually all secret plans get discovered. This was what Abby kept trying to remind herself while Bill Ford's temper reached all new heights. He'd come across a letter from Mother Criss to "Abernathy," though clearly it was written to Bernadine.

( Of course, Bill didn't think his sweet and innocent Bernadine would come up with this crackpot idea. )

I am writing to you on behalf of the New York Association of Wizards Department of Misuse of Magic regarding an incident of summoning sharks to a muggle beach on Friday, July 8th, 2011. We want to stress the importance of not performing magic in such places that muggles may witness it.

Madelyn still couldn't explain what had possessed her. It seemed like a spirit of the moment thing.

( She was blabbering on about her summer reenacting plans and Riley seemed mildly tolerant if only because it was something mainstream society frowned on and therefore he approved. )

Outside of school the Hulett sisters didn't discuss business. They arranged a weekly meeting in Jillian's office. Over the summer these weekly meetings turned into monthly meetings. ( Irene took her seat in an ancient leather chair and passed a piece of paper across the desk, a letter which she was certainly not meant to read. )

It seemed that the truce called between Abernathy and Adelaide was a genuine affair, as the peace had been lasting, if not a little strained. That first weekend of respite had passed without incident, and during the following summer Adelaide found herself the surprised recipient of a polite owl extending her an offer to again join the Ford family for a few days. She accepted almost immediately, thanking Abernathy for the invitation (though she had little doubt Bernadine would have been behind the idea) and asked when she should arrive and what to bring.

( A few days later, she Apparated onto their doorstep with a backpack slung over her shoulder and the hope that this visit would be as pleasant an experience as the last. )

As much a surprise to herself as it probably was to Adelaide, Abernathy sent a snake that she hand carved out of wood. The note attached to the plain packaging reads: Happy birthday bitch! AB

Luka sent a birthday owl for Adelaide bearing another pair of underpants with a note attached that reads Just kidding, Luka. Underneath the underpants is the actual gift he intended to send her.

Luka sent a present by owl to Rosa for her birthday. It may have arrived a few days late due to weather.

Early in the morning, a fleet of owls deliver the school's monthly newspaper to every student's doorstep. This is a special Summer Break issue that covers some important dates over vacation as well as the first month school is back, as the next issue won't come out until September 30th.

Dear students,

As our school year draws to a close I'd like to take this time to remind you that Friday is the last day of classes. Your parents have already been informed that you may remain in the dormitories until Sunday afternoon. Shuttles will start running Friday evening to St. George's Way for the floo and other transportation. Your parents should be contacting you this week to inform you of your travel arrangements.

Your house parent will be circulating with room check out forms before you leave. Please be sure to read them and follow the directions for check out procedure.

Seniors and graduating University students will have a brief graduation ceremony before dinner on Friday in the ballroom. All students and faculty are invited to attend, as well as the graduating students' family.

School had been out barely a day before Cinna sent out a mass email inviting everyone ever to come hang out. She figured after Independence Day people would probably be sick of their families already, so proposed the weekend after that: a beach party on Friday and if anyone wanted to stay for the rest of the weekend they were more than welcome.

Friday couldn't come quickly enough. Part of the beach had been blocked off for them very early in the day, and Cinna's parents had very thoughtfully hired some entertainment-- a series of beach vans, one with ice creams and slushies, another with food, a third with a bar and an attendant paid to look the other way, and a little DJ booth on wheels.

The sky was endlessly blue, not a cloud in sight to spoil the day ahead, and the beach was clear and ready for the shenanigans to begin.

November really did have every intension of going out to study, she even brought a stack of notebooks along with her. She had picked a secluded place near the farm to settle herself in and began pecking away at her studies. Finals were looming around the corner but with guitar by her side it was easy to get distracted. Instead of thinking about the different properties of mandrake root she would thinking about different songs to play and what chords would sound good together.

Twenty minutes had gone by and her fingers were just itching to pluck at the strings. She had made herself a deal then and it sounded reasonable in her head. Twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off. She finally tossed her notebooks aside and started playing and singing Crying by Roy Orbison. She loved singing, it was probably one of her favorite things to do but she never did it in front of people. Out on the farm she figured she was safe though.
