The Party to End All Parties

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Smiles
Who: EVERYONE
When: Monday, February 22nd
Where: Castle Ford, Lake Luzerne, NY
What: Cinna throws a birthday party for Bernadine and Abby. CHAOS ENSUES.
Rating: Let's just say probably NSFW

Cinna tried hard to keep secrets, she really did. But somehow, through someone, her super secret surprise birthday party for Abernathy had become known, and people from all corners were asking questions about it-- when was it, where was it, what should they bring, if they could bring a friend... before she knew it, word of a giant bender she was organizing over holiday had gotten out, and everyone in the school seemed to think they were invited. She was pretty sure some of them didn't even realize this was specifically for Abby's birthday.

She gave up on her awesome idea of a small, cozy bash and informed her best friend (actually Bernadine, as she had still not figured this out) with a rather sheepish face that she was maybe possibly accidentally hosting a giant party... at Abby's house. On her birthday. And that everyone was coming. Everyone.

Somehow, Bernadine convinced Abernathy that this wouldn't be such a disaster. )

Valentine's Day Owling Booths

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
npc: owl
Early in the morning of Valentine's Day, before the students roused, owling booths were set up in the main corridors of Maple and Oak Halls as well as outside the student dorms. There, students could purchase candygrams from Apple’s Sweets or roses from the Herbology labs, which were then sent anonymously or with a signed note to crushes and loved ones. Purchases are only available to be made between class or on breaks, but will be delivered throughout the day.

Who: Abernathy and Bernadine Ford
What: Abernathy calls to yell at her sister a bit.
When: Saturday afternoon, after Cinna's post went live.
Where: Abernathy's dorm room. Both of them. ;)

Bernadine expected the berating would happen sooner or later. She was hoping to delay it a bit, but Cinna was very good at throwing monkey wrenches into plans. She picked up the phone at her sister's insistence, though she let it ring a few times.

Really, B? )

Sweetheart Dance - Friday, February 10th (Open to all)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
COOL AS ICE
With the start of a new year, things tended to be a little hectic. January tended to be quiet events-wise, to give people time to get everything under control and get themselves sorted to deal properly with the second semester. But when February rolled around, that all changed. That all-important holiday, St Valentine's Day, was just around the corner, and the Events Committee was sure to let everyone know about it.

This year the dance fell a few days before Valentine's itself. Great big heart-shaped posters appeared all over the school, inviting everyone to don their cutest outfits and join in a celebration of fun and romance on the evening of Friday, February 10th in the ballroom.

On the night in question, the ballroom was awash in shades of pink and red. Candles and spotlights had been charmed to take on the colors, and the ceiling was covered in heart-shaped balloons, some of which were also tied to chairs and tables around the outside of a spacious dance floor. The walls were decked with streamers (again in pink and red), and in the corner a DJ was set to fill the room with every 80s ballad ever recorded, a bubble-blowing machine at her side to cover the dancers.

Thinking it over
Who: Anastas de Kooning and Bernadine Ford
What: Stas runs into Bernadine and realizes almost immediately (when she doesn't proceed to kill him) that she's not Abernathy.
Where: The library
When: Afternoon, January 4th
Rating: SFW, excepting some language

It was a simple enough thing, but it was enough to undo all the good that Bernadine was receiving from Dresden Academy.

The spring semester started, students adjusting to the return begrudgingly. )

Early in the morning, a fleet of owls deliver the school's monthly newspaper to every student's doorstep. Due to the Mid-winter break, the next issue will come out on March 2nd.

Saturday, January 28th: Quodpot - Tryouts
Saturday, February 4th: Quidditch - Dresden Herons vs Dresden Bobcats
Friday, February 10th: Sweetheart Dance
Saturday, February 11th: Quidditch - Dresden vs Magia Del Sol (both teams) - AWAY GAME
Saturday, February 11th: Potentially the first Quodpot game after restructuring - see fliers around campus for details closer to the date
Sunday, February 12th: St George's Way Daytrip
Sunday, February 12th: Riley Bloodfeather turns 17
Monday, February 20th to Friday, February 24th: Mid-winter break
Tuesday, February 21st: 'Abernathy' Ford turns 19
Saturday, March 3rd: Quidditch Final - Dresden Bobcats vs Dresden Herons (Winner represents Dresden at Nationals)

OOC: This occurs before tryouts. Took a little while to compile this one because Quodpot scheduling had to be completely redone.

Quodpot Tryout Results

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
James Walsh
What the students didn't know about the sudden decision to reduce their quodpot teams from 5 to 2 is that it was in the works since the fall semester. The quodpot coaches might have left their teams tied at the end, but then they couldn't decide who would stay on to coach and who would leave.

After Jaime stepped aside it was decided that they'd have two more matches at the start of the new year before breaking the news to the kids. The coaches of the winning teams from those last two matches would be the coaches of the new teams.

After some heavy arguing, Lars Holden and James Walsh (the newly crowned quodpot coaches) added one caveat. University students would once again be eligible to play quodpot and they'd be invited to the tryouts along with the other students.

It's Holden vs. Walsh forever )

OOC: Just let me know which of your kids made the cut, which position, which team. I'll leave it to you. <3

Dear Students,
It is with great regret that I must inform you that there will be no quodpot matches this weekend.

Instead there will be tryouts, as we reduce our number of teams from five down to two.

I expect that no one will be very happy with this decision, but it is with the school's fiscal function in mind that it has been made. I do hope that you will come to understand and respect this decision in the same serious vein in which it was decided.

Your headmistress,
Jillian Hulett

New Years House Party [open to all!]

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
cinna: lmao
On the morning of December 31st, Cinna was up bright and early making sure that everything was prepared for the giant party she was throwing later that evening. She hadn't specified any start time, thinking people would show up whenever they like knowing full well that the fireworks were on at midnight (after all, it was a New Years Eve party, and people weren't completely stupid).

Along with Independence Day, New Years was one of Cinna's favorite holidays. She just loved fireworks, and having the holidays at opposite ends of the year meant that they could be experienced in different ways. One was all about summer barbecues, and the other was about getting tipsy and ridiculous with friends.

She decisively banished her parents to their end of the house once the first guests arrived. She didn't need their help-- people could get their own food and drinks out of the kitchen and entertainment areas where it was all laid out and ready for the taking-- and she certainly didn't need her mom ogling all the teenage boys about. Or worse: Them ogling her back.

She offered silly tiaras and noisemakers to everyone, and put the leftovers in piles on tables for when it was closer to midnight, or when people were just drunk enough to want to play with them anyway, and wandered around to say hi to friends.

Dresden winter
Just to keep it streamlined, here's a post for texting that happened over Winter Holiday break between students.

Be sure to put in the subject line who the text is to and from and if you want include the time.

And remember: texts have a maximum of 160 characters.

ENJOY!

A little early, but at least this way it's up and I won't forget about it during real life holiday madness

Holiday Gift Exchange

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Christine Allen
Every year Christine Allen set up the annual gift exchange, something a little different from a secret santa.

Students could drop presents by her office the week before the official exchange. Some packages were anonymous, some from parents who wanted their kids to have a little gift basket of snacks to finish off the semester, some were from professors or fellow students who wanted to share in the spirit of the holiday season.

By the end of the week she'd send out a fleet of little owls inviting anyone who received a present to drop by her office Monday afternoon to pick it up.

Quodpot and Quidditch Results from December 17th

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

The Bobcats finally got a break and squeaked out a win against the Blue Ridge Quidditch team. Mei Lan Bai made some rather challenging goals in the course of the game. Final score 220 to 70.

And another surprise upset on the other side of the field. Putnam overtook the overwhelming favorite, Champlain. Kristin Pruitt took down the opposition with brutal force. Final score 32 to 14. This win by Putnam puts the quidditch standings at a standstill with all 5 teams tied.

We'll see you again after the new year.
