San Francisco, if either of them had ever seen it before, would pale in comparison to what they see now. 'The city by the bay' now consumed the bay, sprawling, and with towers extending towards the sky and down into the waters. The air is clean, and the sun is shining bright with only a few. The human population is staggering, compared to nearly anywhere else in what remains of America. Everything looks carefully maintained and to be operating like clockwork.

And there is The Wall. A massive construct encircling the entirety of the expanded city, and swinging off into the ocean. The island of Utopia, the former Asteroid M raised from the ocean floor, and supported by the pillar-city of New Atlantis, sits at the center of the ring. It's not just the size or apparent solidness of it that strikes those who look at it, it practically thrums with energy, both magical and technological. Queen Illyana of Limbo, Lady Gwynn of Avalon, Forge, Madison Jeffries, and James Bradley, among others, wasted no effort in one of the greatest works of their age. It was, quite literally, the last barrier for most of humanity.

Every half mile along the top of the wall are sentry posts, each with at least half a dozen figures floating or standing above it, more than half of their number crackling with some kind of energy.

The exceptions are the posts at opposite ends from one another. One facing in towards the mainland, one facing due West into the ocean. Each of them has only one guard. A slight man with glasses sits facing the sea, holding a fishing rod, while a tall man with black hair in braids and reddish skin mans the landward post.
