Along with the rage, the Rider senses another driving force for their actions. Simple greed. Someone is paying these men - someone inside the palace.
The hammer strikes the bomb, which explodes in a storm of fire and shrapnel. Certainly not at the critical point the invaders had intended, instead just consuming two of the men themselves almost entirely, their burnt husks hitting the ground. The other two are injured, one badly enough to be left trying to crawl away, the other running deeper into the tunnels.
