It's fun to study...
Who: Severus and Peter
Where: The Library
When: This Evening before Dinner

Severus found himself once again in the library cozy in his secluded area. All around him he could hear his fellow students looking for the books they needed for class. He could also hear their hushed whispers, a few were filled with anxiety and worry. Severus smiled to himself at this since it was evident that these students were ill prepared for their courses. Many would think at the way Severus was furiously scribbling on the parchment in front of him that he too was in the same book, they'd be wrong. The notes in front of Severus had nothing to do with any classes and more to do with ideas for spells and potions. Raising his hands above his head Severus stretched his tired muscles.

The spell he was currently working on was a lot more difficult than he expected. He was inspired by the silencing spell to create something that would block the hearing of those within a particular area. At first he thought if he simple broke down the silencing spell and replaced particular aspects with his desired outcome it would work. Of course it looked good on paper but it still wasn't effective. His first tests had shown that the spell amplified sounds around a particular area... although handy... not what he was looking for. Severus pulled out his pocket watch and realized that it was close to dinner so he needed to hurry.

Peter could almost feel the tension radiating from Severus and he had to hold himself back from turning and running in the opposite direction. He didn't think Lily would appreciate hearing that he just about ran away from the mere sights of her friend, though. Instead, he forced a smile on his face and stepped closer to the table.

"I'm fine," he answered. "Just decided to come try my luck at homework, is all." Peter nervously motioned to his bag.

It was awkward, attempting to be civil to someone he had no contact with other than Lily. For that matter, he couldn't remember a time where he and Severus were alone. This had to be a first and, if he didn't sit down and get to know the Slytherin, Lily would kill him if she found out. So, taking a deep breath, Peter dropped his bag on the table and slowly took a seat.

"I... hope you don't mind. I won't bother your work." Peter waited to take out his things until Severus said something. "If you do, I can go..."

Don't mind? Of course Severus minded he didn't want his solitude broken by the likes of Peter. But did Severus tell him that he minded? Nope. He swallowed those words with an obvious gulping sound and just stared at Peter. "Since you've already seated yourself, Peter, you might as well do something productive."

There. Lily would be happy I didn't send him off like a first year Severus thought glumly to himself. Now that someone was seated next to him in his quiet area Severus knew all hope for creative thinking was lost. Instead of returning to his notes on his spell he closed that notebook and brought out his potions book. The book was a tattered ratty thing, worn and torn with overuse and age. Severus's face lit up with a small smile, the book always seemed to cheer Severus up. Although many of his year mates ridiculed Severus for not having a newer book he ignored them. It wasn't the book itself that was important, Severus opened the book and there scrawled in ink nearly faded was his mother's name, and that is what made the book important.

Being in a much more cheery mood than before he turned to Peter, "What are you studying?" Although the tone was a bit more inviting for conversation, Severus's face was not, did Severus know this? Nope. In his mind he was smiling.
