He sighs when she says she loves him, because he knows it. He also feels the same way. He loves her as much now as he did the night they tore them apart, but one of them has to be rational, has to think.
"I would never ask you to wait for me, Natalia. That wouldn't be fair. Besides, we don't even know if I'm fully free of whatever they did to me. We can never be sure they don't have a way to stop me or take control again, and I /will not/ endanger you, Steve, or anyone else in that way again." James says.
He has nightmares about it, about being with her when they come for him again. Someone says a word, and he goes from holding Natalia to strangling her to death. That scared him.
"I don't want to be the reason you die." he says.
