Joey took the cards out of his pocket and shuffled them a few times, waiting as she did so.

If they didn't let him in, he wasn't sure how he was going to continue looking for his mother, but he'd have to find another con to run in the meantime. Hell, that wouldn't be a bad idea even if they did let him in.

A reason to leave in a hurry is always a good thing; that's what Mr. L taught him years ago.
