That level of instability isn't something Corey's sure he wants to try for yet. He strains and draws from further away, trying to get a grip on a good amount of solid earth and rock.
And when he comes around to the low point, in need of building up more intertia, he'll set as much as he can in the path so he can't be ratchetted up.
Running into it isn't comfortable, mind, but the timing and positioning are such that he isn't really injured, just the wind partially knocked out of his thickly bound-up self. But at least he should stop now.
