In search of knowledge...
After her conversation with Daniel, Ellie left the living room to go look for one of the boys. Or at least one that could at least give her a better understanding of hockey. 'Cause while the Mighty Ducks movies were good, they weren't really going to help all of that much when it came to her and Daniel's date (she still couldn't believe that she had a date!). A boy's advice on the subject would be very helpful.

Wandering through the boys' dorm, she stopped at Lucas' door. He was nice, and he was a boy, so he should at least know something about sports, right? She sure hoped so, as she knocked on his door.

"Lucas?" she asked, hoping that she wasn't bothering him. "It's Ellie...can I talk to you about something?"

	Given that virtually the only non-essential item in his room that isn't in some way shamanic in look is the sports jacket Moira got him for Christmas, there's probably some sign she made a wise choice. 	The question gets a big grin. He can't help it - he heads for his closet, and pulls out his mostly homemade hockey gear, hand-carved stick and all. "Yeah, some. Why do you ask? Trying to get teams together or something?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	He returns the hug without hesitation. "No problem. Avs are better than the Rangers, but I guess they are local. Now go on and get your skates. I don't have time to carve you a new stick right now, but we'll manage with one. I'll meet you down at the lake." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"Okay!" She scampered down the hallway back to the girls' dorm to get her ice skates. A few minutes later, Ellie was bundled up and running to the lake, skates slung over her shoulder. When she got the lake in her line of vision, she teleported so that she was right beside Lucas, a wide smile on her face. "I'm here!" she began to quickly put her skates on. He glances over and nods. He's out on the ice, a little ways away from where Cait is working and chatting. He has his own skates on, and seems quite comfortable in them, keeping his balance as he squats down and scratches a diagram in the ice.

"Ok, first basic things, there's three periods, not innings, not quarters." he starts, going completely basic. "The scores are called goals. Each goal is one point. You get a goal if the puck passes across the red line in the goalie box." he says, pointing out the rough spots in his diagram.

	Ellie skated to where he was on the ice, wobbling a little, having not skated in awhile. She nodded silently, watching him make the diagram on the ice. "Three periods, scores are called goals, each goal is a point if it passes through the red line, got it." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Its easy when a goal is scored, because lights flash and the players get all excited. Anyway, here's the positions... the center is here... in the front and center. To his right and left are the right and left wingers. Yeah, its pretty basic. Back here are the defensemen, and guarding the goal is the goalie... let me know if I need to repeat anything, or if you'd like some training montage dreams or something to help you remember."

	"Yeah, I'd need your ok to enter your dreams tonight, but I can use my powers to help imprint some hockey knowledge in your brain once you're asleep. You'll remember everything. "No problem. Thank you for asking me. This is fun." he replies, going back to the diagram, and showing her where the players set up, and some of the basic rules, keeping it simple enough that she should be able to retain it, make a couple useful observations, and not look bad, without getting too complicated.
"You want to try it a little?" he asks, offering his hockey stick to her.

	He's careful about the explanations, and fairly sure she has about half of it. The dream work should help with the rest. He settles into a stance with the stick. "Ok, put your hands like this, bend your knees. This way you have control over your stick and the puck, and can still skate." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
