Family Meeting
Paulo held the door as Julian strolled into the hotel, adjusting his tie for the third time since getting in the car. He was sure there were paparazzi following them; they hadn't let up since the business at the Statue of Liberty several days ago. The others were caught under the limelight just as much, if not more, and while Julian relished the attention on one level, some things deserved the consideration of privacy.

Like today.

"Paulo, you're certain you delivered the invitations?" Julian asked again before entering.

"Yes, Mister Howard. Again, I couldn't put them directly into Mister Summers' hands, but the attendant I tipped said he would be certain they were received." Paulo says.

"He should have called by now. Or at least told me to take a flying leap. What if he's still not well after..." Julian wondered.

"Sir, you said you saw him leave with a young woman before you could get to him. I'm sure he's fine. Now, calm yourself and go see him." Paulo said gently.

Julian took a deep breath and nodded, then steeled himself. There was no telling how Andrew would react to him, or news of their relation. He hoped to be welcomed, but it was quite possible that Andrew would want nothing to do with him at all. It was also highly possible that his father would feel the same way.

Pushing the doubts out of his head for the moment, Julian walked up to the service desk and smiled at the young lady behind the counter.

"Julian Howard to see Andrew Summers, please. Let him know that I'm here, and I'll wait at his convenience." he says.

	She was there within a minute. For the record, in terms of psionic energy, Giovanna probably conveys the sense of a cross between a banquet buffet table and Fort Knox. "Mr. Howard? Giovanna Bennet. I'm afraid Mr. Summers is occupied," she says, completely truthfully. (Reply to this)(Thread)

"Miss Bennet, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." he says, his eyes narrowing oh-so-slightly at sensing the psionic energy radiating from her. Truly the daughter of his father's dark knight, in both power and countenance.

"I apologize for coming unannounced and on such short notice. If Mr. Summers is occupied, I can always come back another time. I really just wanted to know that he was all right. Well, I should say that I wanted to know if both of you are doing well." he says.

He offers her a smile. "I'm glad you're both well. You both showed great courage and valor during the crisis, but that's to be expected."

"I understand that you're both busy. Diplomacy doesn't often leave time for relaxation, and the two of you do good work on behalf of Genosha. Still, the invitations stand. You're both welcome at the Popular Outcast, and the upcoming X-Factor Plaza at any time." he says.

"May I ask how long you and Andrew intend to remain in the United States? I don't want to schedule something for the three of us to do only to find out you're on your way home." he says.

A thin smile meant to hide a brittle sense of hurt behind the slight flickering of energy in her eyes. "Andrew showed courage, Mr. Howard. I believe I mostly showed rage and concern. But some things cannot be ignored, as you obviously agree."

She'll indicate that they please sit down somewhere where no one else is around. "You intend to have a plaza?"

"We do not have specific plans to go home any time soon, but of course one never knows how the situation will evolve." That sentence is dripping with both the unspoken question of why this man wants the three of them to do anything together, and the certainly-never-to-be-voiced-to-outsiders concern that Andrew may one day decide she and she alone needs to go home.

"Don't discount yourself so easily, Miss Bennet. You were there with him, and it takes something other than rage and concern to go after a friend in the line of fire." he says.

"Yes, I do intend to have a plaza where the members of X-Factor will live, work and play, when they aren't out showing the people that mutants are humans as well. I came face to face with the man responsible for kidnapping those children, Miss Bennet. It's people like him and those who follow him that we need to stand up against." Julian tells her.

"In any event, there will be some extra space available for those interested." he says.

"No, we never know what the future holds, Miss Bennet. I had someone offer to tell me recently, but I turned them down." he says, thinking back to Failsafe's words.

"Granted, you're now probably wondering why exactly you or Mr. Summers would spend any time in my company or why I'm so interested to meet him. Let me assure you that I don't intend him any harm. In fact, I want to help and protect him.

Is that not what one does for family?" he asks her.

She listens; she nods, and at the last part, she blinks.

She pauses for a moment, and her flickering eyes narrow just slightly.

"Mr. Howard, if you recognize my last name at all, you probably know that even before our personal concern for each other -- and that is considerable -- comes into it, what my family owes Andrew's family is beyond evaluation. If this is some sort of joke, I can assure you that you will not find it funny for long."

Julian leans back in the chair as he observes the lioness come out in Giovanna Bennet. Exodus' devotion to Magneto is storied and second to none; he knows that Miss Bennet believes each world she says, and that she will not allow anything to happen to Andrew that does not happen to her first.

"Please, call me Julian, Miss Bennet. And let us be simple with each other. I would never joke about something so serious as my lineage, especially where my father's good name is concerned." he says. His tone is polite, still conversational, before he leans forward in his chair to whisper to her.

"If I tell you that I am Magneto's son, I am either an utter fool with a death-wish...or I am quite capable of proving such things when absolutely necessary. You may choose for yourself which you believe.

But my goal, so long as Andrew is here, is to see that no harm comes to him, and to see that he has the chance to do what he wants to do. As such, working with you is a part of that. Also, if you have no worries, that leaves you free aid Andrew in whatever way he needs." Julian says.

She looks at him, intently and unflinchingly, as she listens. And somehow, even if it may technically defy laws of physiology or physics, her perfect posture gets a little straighter.

If Magneto had a son her family didn't know about, he probably didn't know of him himself.

They were probably going to have to call home about this. Once she got a chance to talk to Andrew.

"On that goal, of course, we can obviously agree."

"Good. We can use that as a starting point." Julian says.

"I hope your channels of communicating with Magneto are secure, because I would rather not have it come to the attention of many of my relation to him. I am aware that Andrew is his heir, and I do not want to get in the way of that. I will tell you, however, that there are those on Genosha who are very likely interested in doing just that and the news of another son could cause political instability." he says.

"I have no interest in Andrew's position or endangering Magneto's rule...but there are those who do." he says.

	Giovanna barely contains a wry smile. The threatening of his position is the last thing Andrew would ever worry about. But she can't smile, because political instability is serious business, and she thinks Andrew would agree. "We won't deal lightly with this information, I can promise that." 	Giovanna nods to the first part. She then very deliberately does not ask what he's currently working on to aid Andrew. She just says, quietly, trying to keep the touch of sadness out of her voice. "I am aware of that, Miss Bennet. However, the principled man shall benefit by keeping in his circle those who are not beholden to all of the same principles as he. Some day, action must be taken which goes against some principles, and there must be those who can carry out said action, so that the principled man does not." Julian says cryptically.

"And Andrew need not be aware of where all of his aid comes from."

Julian nods. "I am. I can return at a predetermined time, or you can call me at the number on the invitation you were sent and let me know when a good time to stop by is."

He isn't certain that Giovanna Bennet is willing to work with him, but if she's close to Andrew, it benefits all of them to make the effort.

He stand and offers a hand.

"Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, Miss Bennet. I appreciate you hearing me out."
