It's right about then that the nice night takes a turn for the unpleasant.
The world around James and Val changes as a virtual reality system projects a new environment around them. When it's fully formed, they're on a rocky, mountainous path in what seems to be the afternoon. Behind them, the path is collapsed and impassable. But farther down the path is what seems to be small European village.
