Steve's parents taught him about responsibility and working for things too. But they also taught him that you couldn't do everything, that you had to pick and chose what battles you fought. And more importantly, that you shouldn't try to do everything, that you had to understand your limits, even in trying to go beyond them.

"I can't," he said, in response to the offer. "Short of your brother, there's nobody else to really hold the team together, nbody with the history or investment in it. And I promised Charlie I'd make sure there was an Avengers for them to come back to."

He stroked her cheek, then kissed her. "Can't imagine what it was like, me off Avenging and you being left behind. But I know I'm gonna worry about you, since I'm not gonna be there to watch your back. Just promise me you'll be careful."
