The first day of school was suddenly here. Anya could scarcely believe it. The summer went by so damn fast. Tomorrow was freshmen orientation. It meant spending the day on campus, taking another tour, listening to all the hype and doing the typical freshmen stuff. Monday was another whole day on campus doing freshmen activities. Anya really didn't want to go through the song and dance, but it was required and her father would be disappointed if she didn't go.

Her clothes were picked out. The suit was given a diagnostic check and the storage unit was ready to go.

There was one thing she had to do before the school year officially kicked off.

With classes and homework, a boyfriend, and the Avengers, her schedule was going to get quite full very quickly which is why she was currently in S.H.I.E.L.D. medical to see Dad. She felt a little guilty because she hadn't been in to see him as much as she should and she was going to have less of a chance now.

She didn't knock, but stuck her head in the door to see if he was awake.

The last thing she wanted to do was wake up up if he were sleeping. Mom had said he was spending more time awake, but he still needed to sleep as much as possible. Anya was surprised he had been laid up this long. She would have bet money on him trying to get out of the bed as soon as he first woke up.

The sun was starting to sink on the Western horizon and into the Pacific Ocean as another day was ending. A few miles south of 1800 Palos Verdes Drive the ground erupted in a spray of dirt. One by one soldiers came forth from the ground. Some were Spartans, some were Roman legionnaires, and some were Norsemen. A total of three thousand eventually stood in the dying light. They moved into formation and started marching.
