Svalin Thorsdottir ([info]shield_maiden) wrote in [info]marvel_nextgen,
Svalin patted Tryggvi's neck when they came to a stop and he started pawing the ground. Her mount had been eager to take to the air and as eager for battle as Svalin was, but she had held him back. They had spent enough time waiting for Arthur's forces to gather. The longer they waited, the more Svalin grew impatient. She tried to busy herself with helping at the forges and sparring with whomever dared to spar against her, but it hadn't taken the edge off of the anticipation for the coming battle.

Tryggvi reared and Svalin brought him back down. "Easy, my friend. We wilt see battle anon." Her voice was soft as she tried to calm her steed. They were about to go into battle and yet Svalin paused a moment to think of her siblings. What glorious battles were they seeing without her? What foes were they fighting? Were they still alive?

She looked over at Vernique who was riding next to her. She looked a little nervous. It was to be expected. Most of their forces were nervous and many would die this day. Svalin had seen the shadow of death clinging to many of them. It was selfish, but she was glad none of her companions were to be touched by death this day.

Then Svalin looked past Vernique and at a knight named Lancelot. The man had been following Vernique around since the first day they rode into camp. She didn't know if Vernique had favored him with her attention or not and Svalin did not pry.

Tryggvi reared again. Something was not right. Her mount was battle trained and they had faced many battles without the nervousness he was displaying today.

She watched as the Black Knight called the small group forward. Charlie, Vernique, Ryan and two of Arthur's knights would break off from the main body and ride around to the west. They would approach Camelot from the rear and try to sneak into the castle to open the gates for the rest of the host. Svalin and the rest were to provide a distraction until their mission was accomplished.

"In the morn we wilt raise drinks to the fallen and to our victory," Svalin said. "May thou have safe passage and thine weapons find the enemy."
