Re: Hours Later
"I'll see what I can do," she said and sent commands to the armor to grab Steve's equipment. "I know Mom has /stuff/ at the safehouse."
Once they were on the ground, Anya parked the car on a random street and they got out and made their way to the subway. Even though Anya disabled the tracking device on the car, she wasn't going to take any chances. They rode a few of the subway lines, took a bus or two and when Anya was confident they weren't being followed, she took them to the safehouse.
The small one bedroom apartment wasn't much, but it had the things they would need. Once inside, she booted up the computer and started the program that would bounce the connection all over the world. Anyone trying to trace it would have a very long trail to follow. She turned on the monitors that showed feeds of outside and all around the building, including the roof.
She turned to Steve. "First thing's first. We need to change the way we look. There's clothes in the bedroom for you to change into." They were always kept there for Misha just in case. "And...." She went to the bathroom and pulled out two boxes of hair dye from under the sink. She tossed the box of dark brown to Steve. "Use that. I'll get the other stuff we'll need."
She came out of the bathroom and found the hidden latch to release part of the far wall. It slid open and revealed an armory. There were guns of all sizes and makes with ammo, a crossbow and arrows, knives, grenades, grappling gun or two and even a spare set of Mom's Widow's Bite bracelets. Along with C4 and detonators of course.
"I don't know if I should be impressed or worried," Anya said as she stared at the wall for a moment. The she opened a drawer at the desk and pulled out a neatly stacked and wrapped wad of cash, two passports and two cell phones. "Only use the phone once and then toss it away," she instructed.
Some kids' Mom's took them the playground. Hers took her and her brother to safehouses to show them where they were, what was in them and what to do if they ever needed to go to ground.
