Gretchen leaned back into the shadows a little but smiled and let her accent show. "Sorry, we didn't mean to be insensitive about the difficulties of the recovery," she says politely to the passerby. Then she looks to Brad and reaches for his hand. It's a generally rotten situation, and she knows it's probably hard for him.
