"Because he has allies. This is all too well timed, too careful. We're missing something. We have too many mages here, we'd have noticed if he was doing this all by himself. We need to figure out who he's working with, that they were able to get the eight to work together... then, when we have that... well, I won't punch him. Not in my nature. But I will make sure the line to do so is orderly and that everyone gets their turn."
