Evan is the Devil-Spider, sure. Willing to do terrible things to cement his power base and protect what's his. However, randomly killing civilians stupid enough to get too close to a fight doesn't serve him, and he still has a little of 'May and Ben's boy' in him - especially for cute girls.
As a blast gets too close, he does the very Spider-Man heroic thing of flipping off a wall and over to the girls, and teleporting them to safety.
"Watch it, next time, no save." he calls, bouncing back towards the fight. Unintentionally probably helping convince them who the good guys are.
