Iason occasionally remembers some odd things about history. When he heard it was Charlie's birthday, one of those oddities springs immediately to mind.
He had to fly to a lot of places all over the front to find the person he was looking for, and, indeed, he ended up engaging multiple German planes during the effort - but it paid off, even ending up helping just the man he was looking for in a dogfight.
After that, it wasn't too hard to convince the man to help with his gift - though Iason had to fly back to the states to get one thing.
By the time he gets back, late in the afternoon, but in time for Vernique's plans, Iason has a baseball with Ted William's autograph for Charlie.
