Princess and Dad talk
Anya flew to New York after her last class of the day. Thankfully she was done with classes at noon today so she had plenty of time to spend with Mom, Dad and Nick. It had been awhile and Anya needed contact with the family on a regular basis or things weren't right with the world. Not to mention she had to see how Dad was doing with the whole her getting married to Steve thing.

While Dad was still working Anya played with Nick and let Mom take a nap. She could handle a baby for an hour or two.

The two of them sat on the floor in the living room and Anya made funny faces and noises at Nick to get him to laugh. Laugh he did. Nick was a happy baby and was always laughing and smiling. Anya laughed right along with him. Little brothers were great she concluded. It was the older ones that gave her grief.

"Who's the best baby?" she asked and poked his little belly.

The sight of his children playing together made Tony smile. He watched silently for a moment before he made his presence known.

"He knows exactly who the best baby is. Don't you, Buddy?" Tony asks, walking over to them and kneeling down to look at Eddie.

"And I see you like playing with your big sister. Maybe /you/ can succeed where Dad hasn't, huh? Ask your big sister to move away from that big, scary Boston-place and come to New York. Go ahead, Buddy." Tony encourages.

"Don't listen to him," Anya told Nick. "Boston is a perfectly good city and it's really nice. As cute as you are with those chubby little cheeks, it's not enough to make me quit school and move back." She very gently pinched a chubby cheek.

Anya picked Nick up and sat him in her lap. She dropped a kiss on the top of his head and smiled. She looked up at her father. "Done working for the day? Or is Pepper making you make up for missed time?"

	"Well, I'm glad you're happy, Anya." Tony says genuinely. "But you're sure everything is okay? How are things at Thunderbolts HQ? Everything good there? What about school? Her eyes narrowed as Nick decided to try to gnaw on one of her knuckles. What was with the interrogation?

"Things are quiet and have been since the superbowl," Anya said. "The team's good. School is school. Personally I think some of my professors are idiots, but they do have a clue once in awhile. Not much else is happening, though Steve and I are discussing where we'd like to go over spring break for a honeymoon."

"Anya, look...my feelings on the matter are not relevant. What matters to me is that you are /certain/ this is what you want. You say it is, so I believe you.

I just want you to have a good time on your honeymoon and for this not to be a distraction of any kind." Tony tells her, hoping he covered well enough. The last thing he needs is Anya learning the truth.

And he's still got people he has to inform.

"Your feelings are relevant," she said. "That's why I asked. You /did/ get up and walk out of the restaurant when we told you. I know it was rash and impulsive, but I never want to disappoint you."

She tickled Nick's belly to get a laugh out of him. "I'm certain this is what I want, Dad. I love Steve and when he disappeared it felt like a big part of me died. I swore to myself that if I ever got to see him again I was going to never let him go."

"Don't make fun of my senility, honey. Your mother says it's sexy." Tony retorts.

"Okay, okay. You and Steve enjoy the honeymoon. I was just trying to suggest a place or two you might like." Tony offers.

He pauses a moment as another thought crosses his mind.

"Anya, has that actor guy spoken to you lately?" Tony asks. He'd noted the timing of Austin's appearance and disappearance from his daughter's life and he still didn't trust the guy. He wanted to make sure that Mr. Caine wasn't going to make any trouble for Anya...

or help anyone else do the same.

"I plan to, Anya, just not at the moment. There are a lot of things at Stark that need my attention and I don't want Eddie getting nervous or worried. But I'm going to take her somewhere nice very soon.

Then we'll be going to England for the wedding and all that good stuff." Tony chuckles.

"That, unless your mom clubs me over the head and drags me off, which I wouldn't put past her at times." he says.

"Anya, I don't think Stephanie is really up for bonding. She took the opportunity to join the new Avengers team out west so fast that I didn't know she was gone until she called to mention it." Tony says, a little sadly.

"NASCAR weekend is this weekend in Vegas, too. I thought she might enjoy it, but she's busy. And I'm planning a guys' night with Steve. It'll be me, Steve, Misha, James and Eddie. We might try poker or something.

Or maybe video games. There's supposed to be some new fighting game out that your mother wanted to get him. It amazes me how much she keeps track of in this family at times." Tony laughs.

"Eddie's gonna love the video games, won't you, Buddy? Won't you?" Tony asks, ticking his son's foot.

"It could be that the insanity is too much to take in a large group," she said. "Maybe one on one would be better. What? His Royal Highness is going to associate with this side of his family?" It came out snarkier than intended, but she wasn't sorry about it.

Misha was turning into the relative who only showed up for family stuff on holidays and special occasions. Anya figured it was because Mom got married and had her family, which he probably didn't count himself a part of. Typical Misha. Though she did missed her brother and she missed the teasing and banter.

"Speaking of, have you had any luck tracking down Cousin Eddie?" she asked. The fact that Aunt Maggie and Cousin Eddie were working together disturbed her.

"See Little Man? This is why we call you Nick. You're not a bad seed like Cousin Eddie."

She looked away and didn't say anything. He could believe that if he wanted. She knew why her brother stayed away and didn't associate with this side of the family.

She looked down at the baby in her lap. "Have you started talking yet? You need to tell the folks exactly how things are."

"He'll turn up. Cockroaches always do." Anya had never gotten along with Cousin Eddie and probably never would.
