Rachel manifests the Phoenix symbol, as she often does when she's using her powers to significant levels, as she has even before she actually started playing host to the damn firebird.
Her shield isn't enough to hold. But it's enough to slow the impact some. Turning what should be a lethal blow into one that just sends her flying into the wall.
