Re: The Second Day
"McSweeden, I want a status report." Strauss' voice came over a radio to one of her men on the scene.
"They're here. Second day in a row."
"Anything we can use?"
"Can't spot the deejay and his girlfriend, but Howard and his girl are at the front of the crowd by the barricades. They're all minding their manners, for now. The Genoshan consulate's got people on the scene too. Not the Summers boy himself, though. Does this change any plans?"
"It changes nothing. Have you seen the way Summers' staff follows him around? They're mindless without him. What's the evac rate for the District?"
McSweeden gets hold of a pair of Castleman agents and checks the reports. "Ninety-two percent. More substance and weapon seizures than we even expected, and three bonus arrests. We're holding on the two blocks nearest the main barricades and media."
"Alright. Let's wrap this up. You are cleared to bring the noise."
"Yes sir." McSweeden turns off the radio and nods to the agents. "Empty the last buildings."
---
A pair of agents enter one of the residential buildings near the barricades. A few minutes later raised voices are heard from a second story apartment. They turn to the sounds of objects being broken, and shouts. Suddenly, a wall explodes out and away as one of the Castleman agents comes through it. The other agent follows him moments later, as a
hulking figure, frothing at the mouth and roaring, jumps out.
The reptilian man lands on a car, crushing it like it were no more than a dollhouse, a screaming child under one arm, who falls to the ground as well. In the gaping hole in the building, a woman with visible bruises up and down both arms can be seen.
His gaze swings on the crowd and now shocked occupants of it. "You want to stare? FINE! I'll take you all on, stupid stinking flatscans!!"
"Get the hostage clear!" An agent shouts, pointing to the child, as police and security agents converge on the behemoth.
