A few leave light scratches, but not the worst. The fastest, and thus those in the front of the horde don't tend to be the strongest. He lets the gaps fill in, he flings the lightpole like a spear at one of the larger creatures advancing, then smashes both hands down, shaking the ground and sending cracks radiating out from him. Uneven ground will make it all the harder to surround him and establish their charge from too many angles.
