The swords and spear tips hit, but scratch and rip the leather armor she wore. The strikes that did make it through the thick leather only scratch her.
Svalin swung the axe in a wide circle, shattering the wooden shafts of spears and when she finished her circle, she ripped a shield from the hands of a shaggy Norseman. She then used it to smash his face.
