Its almost too much for Halbjorn - the greatest battle of his life, and while he's enjoying it, he has to temper himself and hold back, making this its own kind of strain. He continues to cut through everything around him, just hoping his allies have the sense to stay back and give him plenty of room as the bodies pile up.
When the axes finally break under the constant assault, he hefts the two handed axe, going right back to work. This is why he built up the pile of weapons, after all.
