The soldiers turned at the sound of the yell, but for the most part they were slow to react. The Spartans couldn't form up the phalanx in time, the Romans couldn't get set in time and the Norsemen were focused on things ahead of them. The deeper ranks did have time to get set before Halbjorn reached them.

Skurge heard the yell and turned. He saw the two Asgardians and started for them.
