Asleif had to split her attention, to both maintain the spell binding the major demon, and to fight against the approaching hoard. Casting and controlling multiple spells at once was always more difficult, more draining, than otherwise.
Using one hand to maintain the chain spell, she cast another with her other hand, mystic flames called forth against the demons.
