Vernique had gotten Solver down for a nap, and she was sitting alone, listening to music, particularly an odd little folkish song that Dr. Vernard had mentioned at a charity function. "It is a beautiful song," he had said, "by my favorite American songwriter. And I hate it."
A girl had to look into something like that, right?
...Yeah. Bad plan, listening to a song about sun gods and the necessity of violence, right after putting your baby sun god, with his Great Big Destiny, to bed.
It's not that she was a pacifist or something, it's just....
