Strange, truly. Father and their mothers had tried to raise the children to be humble (often causing them to wonder where, exactly, they had gone with Asleif), and in this moment, the lesson seemed to have taken hold. No insulting or condescending comment passed Asleif's lips as she regarded the merchants and artists and other fellows of Central Park.
Clearly, she was slipping. Or perhaps simply less inclined to her traditional behaviors when her siblings were not around to infuriate her.
"Impressive," she said, speaking to an artist whose chalk drawing was still in progress.
