I didn't believe Gene Nation's goals were compatible with helping mutants, particularly those who suffer from mutations that make it impossible for them to hide amongst humanity. There's a whole other existence of mutants most don't know about. Neither Xavier or Magneto seemed to properly acknowledge this segment of the mutant population. It was how some mutants became drawn to gene Nation."
