He shakes his head. "No, sorry. I'm still learning and all but...magic is complicated. Some people just have it, others have to have deals with magic entities or demons, some do both, the list goes on and on."
Now he just stares at Jack, trying to verify something for a moment before continuing. "But...I don't sense any innate magic from you." Martin doesn't outright say again that that mostly leaves the deals with demons and entities, because there was never a guarantee they were benign or didn't ask for a high price. Plus, magic and someone interested in fame? Not a good combo. The not-spiderman had powers that were just fine.
"Okay," he says looking slightly skeptical. "Where'd you get you powers? I told you mine." It's only fair he thinks.
