Moving Meditation (open)
Svalin's mind was far from at ease and she didn't know how to quell such turbulent thoughts. She did know one way of dealing with them and she locked herself in the training room. Robots, frost giants, trolls, orcs, and other enemies were smashed to bits. She didn't come close to finding any answers or solutions to the thoughts that raced through her mind or how she felt torn between Asgard and her family, but she did get some enjoyment from smashing her enemies to bits.

She failed to keep her son safe. Solver had been abducted by Malekith and held by Solver and Svalin let it happen. Even worse, she didn't immediately go after her son as her duties as ruler of Asgard kept her from running off and doing what she needed to do. Not what she needed to do, but she was required to do as Solver's mother and Vernique's spouse.

A blind man could see that her spouse was still upset and furious about what happened and Svalin's failure to act. Svalin would not blame her. Had their positions been reversed Svalin would probably feel the same. It didn't make any of this easier. Vernique was upset and Svalin wouldn't be able to make her understand Svalin's duties to Asgard and her people.

They barely spoke to each other and the air between them was thick with tension, but Svalin was always near Vernique and Solver keeping an eye on them. She wasn't going to fail again. Only when they were in the main building did Svalin take time and go smash things to little bits.

Locks, in general, meant precious little to Asleif. As did privacy, when she was of a mind to state hers. And if she could keep her sister from being completely insufferably moody, so be it.

Besides, the notion of the Goddess of Secrets and Deceptions offering advise to anyone amused her greatly.

A title well-earned, for her role in recent events, but amusing and tragic all at the same time. How better to emphasize that even fate itself did not fully trust her, than to a give her a role in the cosmos bound up in misdirection and falsehoods?

Instead of dwelling, she allowed for some light clapping on Svalin's rather furious performance.

"End program," Svalin said with annoyance in her voice. "Sister." She nodded once to Asleif. "What brings thee here? The training room ist not a place one expects to see thee."

"Thou bring me here, Sister," Asleif said, not unkindly.

"Thine rage art palpable. And thou art better to give thyself to such mindless violence."

"It ist training," Svalin replied. "A way to work through the turbulent thoughts in mine head. Rage doth not play a part."

"As thou sayest," Asleif said, with a small nod. No point in antagonizing her sister.

"And what say thine thoughts?"

"A thought ist to hunt down Malekith and remove his head from his shoulders," Svalin admitted. "He doth dare abduct mine son and hand him to Surtur."

"And he didst assume I wouldst betray thee all, mine family, for dominion over what remained," Asleif said.

"Decapitation be took quick. I prefer fire."

"I for one art glad thou didst not." Svalin gave her a small smile and then bowed deeply as a sign of respect. "Thank thee for helping recover mine son. I art deeply in thy debt."

Asleif returned the bow. "I could do no less," she said. "Thou art both blood of my blood. Anyone who would trespass against any of thee hath earned mine ire."

Because they were her family.

Svalin nodded. "I doth understand completely." Svalin felt the same way as her sister. Blood looked after blood. Yet Svalin had failed her own son. Her head bowed when she thought about her failure. Svalin no longer carried the weight of the Nine Worlds on her shoulders, but she replaced it with a heavier burden of guilt.

Asleif had seen this before, what seemed like ages ago, during one of the Sieges of Asgard, that had led to Svalin's brief time as an Avenger.

"Thou feels that thee did choose poorly, though," she said.

"I doth feel torn," she said. "I hath always been taught what mine duties to Asgard art and do always do them, but ne'er told how hard it ist to do those duties when there art other responsibilities. How canst one choose between the wellfare of many and the wellfare of a few?"

Were the situation not so serious, Asleif might well have laughed. "I art a poor source of advice for such things. I hath oft chosen the path which best serves me, and not others."

She went on. "But take heart in that your struggles art nothing new. Our father didst grapple with this often, and didst just as often chose Midgard and its temptations over the realm."

She brought up a hand and summoned a dandelion, full of fluff, then flew the fluff into the air. "But if mine time in Midgard hath taught me anything, it is that there art times where the smallest and least can be the most important."

"This ist not a simple choice between Asgard and Migard," Svalin said. "This ist choosing between mine duties to Asgard and the safety of the realm and her people and between mine wife and son's safety. There wilt be times where doing both ist impossible. It hath already happened. Mine wife must think I doth not care enow since I didst not go after our son when we learned he wast missing."

"I find the Realm doth look after it self," Asleif said. "Much as I once sought to one day sit upon the throne... Asgard is the Realm Eternal and there art plenty well suited to lead. But thou hath but one son."

There was wisdom in her sister's words, but Svalin had been raised knowing she would be the heiress presumptive and had duties to the realm and her people. It was so ingrained in Svalin that she couldn't just forget about it or ignore it.

She didn't want to argue with her sister, not when she was trying to help. Svalin opted for not saying something and just nodded.

Asleif, fortunately, was not finished.

"Didst thou believe what thee were doing was right?" she asked.

"Aye," Svalin said without hesitation. "I wilt not apologize for doing mine duties. I didst nothing wrong." She knew her wife would not understand and they would continue to have problems.

"Of that, I had little doubt," Asleif began. "But often, I doth wonder. Thou art..."

She paused, considering the word. "Not afraid, certainly. But thou art reluctant to be thyself. Nearly every action I hath seen thee take, since thou risked so much for our brother, precious little of it has been to serve thyself. Selflessness is... an admirable trait, in its way, even I wilt grant it that...

But thou art surprisingly reluctant to consider what thou wants."

Svalin shook her head. "Duty to the realm doth come before any of mine own wants." It was how Svalin was raised. She had been taught from the cradle that her duty was to Asgard and that came before anything else.

The one time Svalin did do something for herself...it hurt to think about Jon and how she had to leave him. He didn't remember her and didn't know he had a son. Maybe it was for the best she had to put Asgard first.
