The nervous fidgeting and the way his fingers occasionally spasm just show how badly this has affected him. He knew this was a sign that he really needed to fix something. But first was getting Manny's forgiveness. The older guy had been nothing but nice to him, and didn't deserve to be caught in the crossfire. On top of that, though he wouldn't verbally admit it unless asked, he felt a little kinship with the other person with hand issues here. It was so hard to explain to most people what it was like to not touch almost anything and to constantly worry about where you hands were. Maybe if he explained Manny would get the hat issue here.
