The "Dreaded' Yearly Psych Evaluation
Publicly she grumbled just as much, okay fine, more than, most people when it came to the psych evals. Why should she have to leave her lab to sit in someone's office and talk about her feelings? Ugh, what a waste of time. Not to mention all the potential for awkward questions.

But there was a loophole. And that loophole came around whenever Val did the evaluations. Of course it required some secrecy, not everyone could know about this otherwise they'd all want it, so that meant the evaluation was scheduled in the evening, when most of the casual workers had left, and everyone still around was too busy.

There's a light knock on Valini's office door and Lena pokes her head in. For once she's out of the lab coat, a rather rare sight most days. "Hey! Annual proof-I'm-not-too-crazy time?"

Val waved at the Wall at the knock, all the reports and crimes scene data melting away to a more appealing screen saver. "So that's what we're calling it?" she asked and smirked. "I prefer 'Making them squirm time', but that's so much more one sided."

The alternate eval was never planned to happen, it was more of a joke that plying people with booze would open them up that actually worked. With Lena, they had been out drinking and found out how more productive the process was. But what worked worked and Val'd nobly suffer the hangover for the results. She grabbed her jacket and killed the lights. "Let's go, before someone gets wise."

"I'm looking out for you and not using the option that makes you sound like an evil overlord," she defended. "Now of course if you opt for that, well..."

Lena had never been the type to go off and get drunk, tipsy was as far as she'd go in public, but she was still quite a chatty tipsy. No doubt a good thing for Val's annual evals. But if she had to do these anyway, might as well get something out of it and have some fun. "Come on you noble doctor, sacrificing your liver and all. Let's book it like that time with the unauthorized use of SHIELD cars," she chuckles and shrugs on her own jacket as they go straight into a brisk purposeful walk to the exit. Nobody interrupted the 'on a mission' as much as the too casual stroll.

"Oh like I'm the most dangerous option this place has for evil overload. I don't even touch chemicals!" She lifted her eyebrow before shaking her head in humor. Squawking, she swatted her friend on the shoulder for letting slip their little less-than-completely-sanctioned road-trip. "Well someone is feeling chatty tonight! We'll be done with the serious stuff before our second round." Still, she walked a little quicker down the hallways to the lobby and to freedom.

Lena just cackles at the shoulder swat, nobody was around her office, she'd checked first. "Not the serious stuff! I'll even have discussions about...makeup and uh, shoes or whatever civilian women talk about. Spare the serious stuff!" At the pace they're going it isn't long before they hit the doors. Freedom!

What do normal people chat about over drinks? The SHIELD types discussed theories, alien tech or what-ifs with ridiculous outcomes. "Then we're going to have a fun time critiquing all of the male agents' butts in their field-suits." They reached the doors and not-quite jogging for the cars, giggling.

"Okay, for that we need to get out of earshot. Some of those guys, cute as their butts may be, are incredibly competitive," she chuckled. No shame, two grown women with doctorates giggling as they almost jog to their cars. "Usual place?"

"Oh to be a fly on the wall when they start arguing over their posteriors' merits." Hopefully, it'd be while they were undressed and in the locker room. What, even psychologists like to dream. She grinned and nodded, waving from her car's door. "Usual place, we can get a booth and be at least slightly discreet. What should I order if I get there first?" '

"With the stipulation that there be no sambuca in it? Anything goes, surprise me!" With that declaration she jogs the rest of the way to her car so they can take advantage of the rest of the night. Non traditional psych eval, here they come.

"Sambuca no, check," she agreed and slid into her car. Valini was good with her driving and parked at the nice foodie bar they had found once while the offices were bieng fumigated from alien flora. Val walked in and went the bar, enjoying not having to shout over music or barrel through people. "I need a glass of Riesling and a Manhattan please," she asked the bartender as she slid over her card. "And start a tab, if you don't mind."

Lena had no hand in the alien flora incident. She didn't like plants much, and studying them was not her thing. Now the security incident with the mutated Nemicolopteruses from Savage land...that was an entirely different matter.

Getting to the bar soon after, Lena parks and heads inside, looking for her friend. "It's so much better to come here when your office isn't at risk for having toxic pollen in the walls," she comments as she slides into a seat.

Looking up, the shrink smiled as her friend joined her. "Here here. And we aren't getting funny looks for starting to drink at 2 in the afternoon this time," Val agreed and nudged the glass to Lena. "I think it's the Psych's wing to unleash something on the building, right?" She flipped a menu around and skimmed the appetizers for munchies. Company tab was wonderful.

"Yep, it's your guys' turn on the rotation," she said as she took the glass and tried the mystery alcohol of the night (#1 of many). "You have a lot to live up to. Don't know if you can top the last few incidents."

"Hypnotize the field agents into ninjas, check. Or pulled everyone's past lives so we have King Henry 5th and his soldier are running around R&D." She sipped her wine and sighed in relief. "I'm feeling the jalapeno bacon-poppers, what about you?"

"Can we get an entire Shakespearean play going on in the caf? I'm putting in a formal request. It'd be a great comedy." She takes another drink of hers, always good to be feeling it when the psych part got sneaked in, and scanned the menu. "Unlike you miss-insane-spicy-tolerance, I have zero ability to hold my hot peppers. So if there's just a bacon or cheese variety I'll take it."

"Shakespeare's good, if we could swing type-casts too," she agreed and mulled the idea over. "But Bollywood's much more vibrant. There'd be dancing and swirling colors, even the shooting would choreographed. Imagine the Winter Holiday party's video with that in it." She chuckles about the heat complaint and nods to look for another dish to order. Poppers weren't even that spicy anyway. "Bacon cheddar mozzarella sticks. That'll do as starters."

"Much better idea. Bollywood musical numbers through the halls. Can we film it? Because if you guys pull that off I'm not sure how it can be topped," she chuckles. "Sounds good. Bacon and cheese is perfect. And, yes, I'm aware I'm a sissy when it comes to spicy."

She laughs when her suggestion's accepted. It'd be priceless to watch their crackshots doing and shimmy-and-bop to bouncy music. "Let's hope so, we have enough security cameras around. We'll get right on that." The plates ordered, she sighs and takes a content sip of wine again. "No of course not. But I couldn't handle that one dish Robertson brought in... Okra. Ugh." She shudders and makes a face.

"Make it a special and play it before meetings and office parties." Lena takes another sip of her drink to hide the amused smile at the mention of okra. She personally disliked the stuff, but without the intensity her friend did. And really, sometimes it was fun to mention okra just to see the faces Val would make. "He didn't know about your thing against okra? For shame. Though really, okra to an office party. What was he thinking?"

Valini took her glass and kissed it to Lena's. "Done. SHIELD goes Bollywood will be on the books." She wrinkled her nose in distaste, but shot Lena a disgruntled look all the same. It was a harmless vegetable but why does it have to be so slimy She cleared her throat and shrugged a shoulder. "How could anyone not have a thing against eating something that tastes like it's been dropped into a vat of slug trails?"

"I look forward to it." Yet another sip to hide an even bigger amused smile. If she did this every time tonight, then they'd need quite a few more rounds. "If you'd like I'm sure I can find something worse than leftovers dipped in slug trails...maybe we can use aplysia instead of slugs to mix things up a bit. Give it a different flavour. How's that sound?" It was too fun to tease Val about this, and no way was she going to give up the opportunity to do so.

The teasing went further and further and Val played her part accordingly. "OH LENA!" Valini frantically waved her hand in the air, trying to dispel words before they got to her. Luckily the appetizers came and she flat out picked up a fried cheese stick and stuck it in the scientist's mouth. Shooting her a look, warning against any more of that talk, Val daintily and primly took her wine and sipped it again. Hmph.

Lena just grinned triumphantly. She'd totally won this. Munching happily on her cheese stick, Lena continues smirking. "You're too easy."

"I'm not the one silenced by fried cheese food," she countered and stuck out her tongue to finish her argument. Taking another sip, she sighed in relief and swirled her drink. "Barring the obvious mishaps in the labs, it's a pity we aren't allowed to have a glass or two at work. I remember italian coffees powering many rather decent papers in college. Just enough alcohol to get creative and enough coffee to do something about it."

"I think they're just worried about all the expensive equipment and guns being around people who already have issues. Caffeine is the main form of substance abuse you'll find around here. I should talk, caffeine fueled papers are my specialty."
