Ok, time for an acting job. Buck starts turning warily, looking from double to double. He fires the lance at once of them, accomplishing nothing.

Even dropping his goggles down doesn't help - they are all visually the same, even in heat imaging... and for all he knows, none of these guys is the real god.

His real reason for the goggles is to hide his eyes. While blasting illusions now and then and looking like he's keeping his attention up, its really to try and prevent Ophois from noticing the paint pellets, waiting for the real guy, illusory, invisible or not, to step on one. Though he can't tell the illusions from the real thing, Buck is betting that they won't suddenly start leaving painted footprints.

He's outclassed, and he knows it. But he's hoping some trickery might at least keep him alive, and let him buy some more time.
