Jack's danger sense goes off just before the rope makes contact, and he jerks his leg. It's not enough for him to completely get away, but the snare catches the arch of his foot, rather than the ankle.
"What the-- oy! No hitchhikers!" He attempts to wriggle free of the snare, his stride disrupted.
