Kristoff sat Cassandra down in a fairly comfortable seat amidst a bunch of lab equipment. Scotty was with his grandfather.

"As far as we have been able to ascertain, this is the situation: fortunately, the reason the neural encoding changes caused by the nanites seem to have taken so long after they were introduced to start affecting you is that they have to constantly maintain their effects; nothing has been permanently neurologically altered. So the gradual buildup of noticeable problems required some time. And once we use the right series of radiation to take the nanites out of the equation, there shouldn't be a risk of a serious negative reaction." Which was an incredible relief. Still... "Finding varieties of radiation which would do that without causing you any physiological damage has been difficult, and of course I'd rather err on the side of caution. But I've found a set of safe forms that I believe will be effective."

Assuming this worked, it would be the best conceivable birthday present to himself ever.

"How soon will I be back to normal? Hours, days?" Please say instantly.

"Assuming that Dr. Richards, Mr. Stark and myself were right about everything and there are no complications -- by the time we're finished here today."

Kristoff explains everything to her as he does it: turning on the appropriately calibrated scanners, sealing off the room. "Some of this constitutes a risk to the eyes," he says, handing her a pair of shielded glasses and putting some on himself.
Then, after checking the setting and precise position of all the equipment twice, he asks her to sit fairly still, but relax as much as possible, and turns on the first set of mild radiation pulses.

Cassie had to bite her tongue to keep from snapping at Kristoff to just get it over with. She put the glasses on, took several deep breaths, and waited.

Kristoff is fairly satisfied with how the first set seems to be progressing, staring at the senor data. After a while, he switches, with explanations and a caution that it may eventually cause a mild headache.
During the second series, the 'Kang-colored filters' imposed on Cassie's mind should start to break down.

Eventually, Kristoff turns off the equipment in preparation for the last batch, and gets them each a glass of water.
"Based solely on the data, it seems to be progressing well. How are you feeling?"

"Tired." Cassie rubbed her head and took a sip of water. "And," She paused, trying to think of how to describe it. "I don't know. Different. Relaxed."

He kisses her cheek. "The fatigue seems normal enough. The rest sounds slightly encouraging."

The moment Kristoff kissed her cheek she felt...

"Oh that is sick. I didn't realize it before but whenever you touched me before I tensed up and felt- he was trying to get me to hate you. I am going to kill him." How could he do that to her?

"Yeah." It still made her skin crawl. She finished her water. "O.K. I'm ready. I just want this over with."

"This should be the last round, able to render them completely inoperable beyond any conceivable reactivation." That had been very important to Kristoff, not leaving such an obvious opportunity begging for Kang's interference. He turns on the last set, watching with growing relief as the time goes and it seems to be working perfectly.

Cassie was silent all through the last round.

Nate, you poor, sick son of a bitch. How did you turn into this?

After what was probably a rather exhausting period, Kristoff double-checked the readings, turned off the machines, stepped over to crouch beside the chair and smiled at her. "It's done, my love."

And he'll help her up, and a very good birthday will be had.
