He doesn't try to read her mind, just a surface scan to get an idea about her. Telepathy was not his forte, and not something he ever used in a fight. But it was useful to keep a track of where people were at all times.
He tilts his head at her, interested by the fact that she wasn't moving or attacking. "I came to see what you were doing on the roof when the rest of the people are inside blowing stuff up." He was going to say 'your people' but amended that. Because Kelly would be blowing stuff up too, of that he had no doubt.
