Well, looked like nice words didn't work. Not much of a surprise, but it did explain why it was easier to deal with burning houses: they didn't argue back. Joe threw a wall of fire up to block the team's escape from one side, herding them in case they'd rabbit. Abernathy had stressed to use as little violence as possible unless things got ugly.
