Galactus has no time to assemble his great machinery. But he does not need it. It makes the process easier, but with the very fabric of the universe at risk, there is little time for that.

The world dies. It's energies go to stave off his great hunter, returning some of his power to him. Enough to make a challenge for the Titan again.
