"No, it didn't." He rolls up to his feet and walks up to the man, laying his left hand on Gabriel's shoulder.
"You can't judge a lifetime by a moment any more than you can judge Lyta as a person by her being shocked and angry at learning so much so quickly. You want a better life for your son, you wanted the kind of family you never had, those are admirable goals, but they take time."
He offers his other hand to the man. "But I hope you stick around, because while there's a lot of very troubled people here, there's also a lot of good to be found. And as much work as it takes sometimes, a lot of these people have gone through hell and back with each other and found a family in the process. But they still had to go through those hells first sometimes. I can't guarantee you that what you're looking for will be found here, but there's certainly worse places. If you do decide to stick it out, let me be the first to offer you a welcome to the X-Men. Troubles and all."
