He hits the ice and breaks a leg, He tries to cry out in pain, but still the sound does not come. It is only Lucas' voice that he can hear outside of the beating heart, and the words said to him were something to give him hope.

He flaps his wings and flies again, this time going over to Lucas. What he doesn't notice is the crack in the ice, only delivered after the slightest bit of hope comes to him. And the beating heart steadied it's pace (but this is not something Gabriel notices_.
